This is one of the ruby red shoes that designers like Betsey Johnson and Jimmy Choo submitted for charity auction in the Fall of 2009. The auction proceeds will benefit the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation. The auction theme asked the burning Wizard of Oz fashion question, 'If Dorothy were living in the 21st century, what would she wear?' Thus, the Oz Ruby Slipper Collection, a creative re-interpretation of one of film’s most iconic and revered symbols.
This clever auction theme showcased the dozens of designer shoes -- all ruby red and all embellished with Swarovski crystals -- at the Swarovski CRYSTALLIZED™ flagship store at 499 Broadway in New York City. An online auction was held. The auction celebrates the 70th Anniversary Celebration of the Wizard of Oz film.
